Meet the Player: Madelyn Savary

Madelyn Savary is a junior golfer from New Hampshire and the 2026 New Hampshire Women's Amateur Champion.

I started playing golf when I was 7 years old. My dad took me out to a local course close to our house and I just hit the ball around. Unfortunately, the golf course is closed for play now, but it’ll always be the place I learned how to play golf. Looking back, those first rounds with my dad are what made me fall in love with the game and inspired me to keep playing. I have made so many friends and even more memories from this incredible sport.

Golf has always been my primary sport, but I also grew up playing field hockey. I’ve been a dual-sport athlete for my high school the past three seasons. I can definitely say that golf is a much more mental sport. You are by yourself and any mistakes made out on the course are yours alone to deal with. At least in field hockey I always have someone to pass the ball to, and I never felt like every outcome depended on me. Even though high school golf is technically a team sport, you’re still playing your own round and contributing your individual score. I think that is what sets golf apart from other sports, it teaches you to stay patient and stay focused and so much more.

My high school team at Bishop Brady is a co-ed team. I was definitely a little nervous the first time I went to practice with them because I kept wondering how they would act. Those nerves didn’t last long though because of how amazing my team turned out to be. They never failed to make me laugh, and they never put any added pressure on me. Instead, they treated me like any other teammate. Some of the boys from the team have even caddied for me in some of my tournaments, which has meant a lot to me. Some of my really good friends have come from the golf team, and I am grateful to have met them. The golf coach is also phenomenal. He always wants us to have fun, be kind to each other, and respect the game of golf. Overall, I’ve always felt respected and supported on the team, and being on a co-ed team has been a really positive experience.
